First Soccer Game of the Season

OK, all the hardwork has been completed and the players are rested, refreshed and raring to go.

Tonight we entertain a fellow NCAA Division III team from Rhode Island.

We have completed our final preparations albeit hampered a little bit with the fires here in Southern California.

The players got to sleep in a bit this morning and then we had a team meeting at 9.00am. The Agenda was as follows:

Welcome and Thank You.
Introduction of a returning player who just flew in from England.
Housekeeping issues.
Timeline for the rest of the day.
GAME PLAN covering defending, attacking, set plays, tempo and rythmn. We are focusing on the following numbers:

Defend in packs of 4
Attack and produce a shot with 5 passes or less
10 shots on goal
First 5 minutes of each half
Last 5 minutes of each half.

Simple as that.

For the remainder of the day the players are staying out of the sun, they are resting and recuperating. I have asked them to visualise they are Barcelona or Manchester United and to ask themselves what would those players be doing in preparation.

OK, the nerves are starting to kick, we want that and expect that and we are ready.
