How to Score More Goals in Soccer

That’s the key to the game isn’t it? Scoring more goals than the other team….if only there was a magic formula that you could learn to help you score more goals…

Scoring goals is part individual skill, part team work, part hard work, part bravery, part decision making, part attitude, part luck, part inspiration and who knows what else, feel free to leave a comment with what other ingredients you think are needed.

Have you ever coached or played with a player who had the knack of putting the ball into the back of the net? Were they an all round player, good at everything, or were they just an out and out goalscorer, not much good at anything else?

My dad always told me, “If you don’t shoot, you won’t score.” Basic advice, but very true. I can’t count how many times I have seen players have the opportunity to take a shot, but they don’t…why do they do this? I know it frustrates the whatsits out of me on the sidelines.

When I am coaching my team, I stress the fact that I will never be upset at a player for taking a shot. I don’t care if it sails over the bar or he pulls it wide, I don’t even care if a team mate was wide open in a better position, I just want to instill in my players that positive, aggressive attitude that their job is to produce a shot on goal whenever they can.

Once I have instilled that attitude into them, then I can work on their technical and tactical skills to improve their results, i.e. help them score more goals.

We will be covering this important topic in weeks to come. In the meantime, take a look at this resource, SCORE MORE GOALS, it really is outstanding. Let me know what you think and what you learned.
