Disappointing end to the English Premier League

Well, for all the build up, “Survival Sunday,” turned out to be “Sleepy Sunday” in my opinion. I had the misfortune to endure the game between Hull City and the Manchester United 3rd Team and boy did it suck. The only ray of sunshine was the thunderbolt from Darren Gibson to win the game. He then went on to prove that his strike was out of the norm with two more shots from a similar position that sailed at least 20 feet over the bar.

As I watched the game I could not believe how bad of a team Hull City were. I really wanted to them to be relegated becasue they are just so bad. Then I had a “Ah Ah” moment and my motivations suddenly changed. I realized that if Hull City were to remain in the EPL then that was one more poor team that would be below Blackburn Rovers next season. I’d rather have them in the EPL than Newcastle Utd, so I suddenly was raring the Tigers on to escape relegation.

On this showing they have to be the hot favorites for relegation next season, that should make life a little easier for the Rovers.

Watching Hull really was painful. You would think that during the week they would have practiced their set plays so that they would be effective. In a game like this, you defend like crazy, work your socks off and then from long throws, corners and free kicks, you make sure you are prepared and put pressure on the other team. Their set plays produced two headers on goal, one easily saved, one needed the Utd keeper to make a relatively easy save. That was it. That is unacceptable. I don’t think Hull would have scored if United had gone off the pitch for 5 minutes for a cup of tea.

As for United, they were poor, but their team had a number of very inexperienced players in it. Sure they had Neville, Brown, Fletcher and to a degree Nani, but the rest of the team were 2nd and 3rd team players, but they still won which shows both the quality of their squad and the ineptness of Hull City.

OK, massive game to look forward to on Wednesday…..
