England’s World Cup so far

So, yesterday I situated myself in front of a massive tv screen in BJ’s Restauarant. pint in one hand and a plate of potato skins in the other, sat myself right on the half way line, ready to go…….

What a let down!!

I have to say that that was one of the most toothless pathetic performances I have ever seen from England. Nobody wanted to take responsibilty, everyone was lacking confidence, not one of the players wanted to grab the game by the scruff of the neck.

A good friend of mine, a die hard Man Utd fan thought that Rooney had been replaced with his twin brother who had never played a game before in his life!!

James looked fine, nothing to do really. Johnson looked OK, at least he was trying to create things, Carragher and Terry looked old and slow. Ashley Cole was not burning down the flank as he does with Chelsea. Lennon is all piss and wind, nothing created at the end of it, Barry was just workmanlike, Lampard was a shell of the player who dominates the Premier League. Gerrard was trying hard but producing nothing. Heskey did some good work but he is simply not a goal scorer.

So, at halftime I was hoping Capello would swap Lennon for Joe Cole and Heskey for Crouch. Instead Crouch was given less than 10 minutes and Lennon was replaced by Wright Phillips.

England needs to put in a massive performance on Wednesday to regain some credibility. Their World Cup can now go one of two ways…either they fail to progress from their group and return in disgrace…..or, you never know, the lightbulb goes off, they turn in a fantastic performance on Wednesday, win their group and then go on a great run and win the whole bloody thing…

The latter scenario is a massive long shot, but hope springs eternal!!

What do you think…Let’s Talk Soccer

  1. Extremely dissapointing! These overpaid babies are a disgrace to the uniform. I pray they choose to play against Slovenia.
