World Cup 2010 Update
While I am sure you will agree, the World Cup has been disappointing so far. However, that is understandable if you think about it. In the opening games teams are concentrating on their defensive discipline with the goal of not losing their opening game.
Individual star players have not caught on fire yet because they are playing cautiously as part of the above strategy.
All the players are getting used to the conditions in terms of weather, stadium and field, the altitude and of course the ball! Throw in their the atmosphere, the vuvuzelas and the nervous energy and it is no wonder the teams are not playing well yet.
The fun will really begin when teams play their third games. By then they should be used to the above factors and the aim of those games for some teams will be that they simply have to go all out to win the game in order to stay in the competition.
Once the knockout or single elimination games begin, look for the games to become more defensive again and more like chess matches.
Highlights so far? Well, I enjoyed North Korea’s goal against Brasil, I enjoyed seeing Blackburn Rovers captain Ryan Nelsen help New Zealand earn their first point. I’ve enjoyed Steve McManaman’s gaffes, they are always fun. That’s about it really…not much to report as yet.

Someone please stop the horns! I tried to give the World Cup a chance, but I’d even turn off the Superbowl if there was the same annoying background noise.
sad that there will be no north korean fans at there games this year ,hopefully the games are on tv in north korea
The Vuvuzela, just when you though kazoos were the most annoying “musical instruments”
World Cup has been very exiting so far. Looking forwards to the upcoming games of Holland and Brazil. If i had to place my money on a team it would surely be Argentina.

I agree, that’s the team I predicted would win the World Cup before the tournament started. I just get a gut feeling that Maradona is crazy and it would be an amazing story if he won the World Cup..oh yes he has Messi, Tevez and Milito to help as well!
All part of the atmosphere I am afraid. Just like the drums in Europe. At least the winners of this tournament are real World Champions!
I agree that the next round should be exciting. Pity the strike is part of the World Cup.
Thank you.
