Managing Soccer Leagues and Tournaments

I have just added a new category to the blog called “Managing Soccer Leagues and Tournaments.”

Although this blog is dedicated to soccer coaching, I have added this category because of my years of experience with managing soccer leagues and tournaments. Also most soccer coaches will at some point be involved in managing their club tournaments or they may even have their own leagues as fund raisers.

When I came over the the US in 1996, I set up my own soccer business in Northern California. I had a contract with the local city recreation department to run after school clinics for them. I developed this into offering youth 4on4 leagues and then adult 8on8 leagues. I grew this part of the business to include adult 11on11 leagues as well.

I then opened the first of my two indoor soccer arenas and added youth and adult indoor soccer leagues as well. I also managed a “rival” indoor soccer facility at the same time and between the two I had well over 200 teams a week playing in my leagues.

So, as you can see, I do have a lot of experience in running soccer leagues! I could literally write a book on what happened over the years in my leagues!

Together with the above leagues I would run Soccer Tournaments that either ran for just one day or the whole weekend.

I will be posting a number of articles concerning how I believe Soccer Leagues and Tournaments should be managed. I encourage people to leave comments with their questions or difficulties they may be having. Chances are I have experienced the same kind of situations that our readers are encountering and maybe I can be of help.
