College Soccer Recruiting Update
OK, so I have been saying this for weeks, we are finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel and our recruiting efforts are nearing an end.
I am the only part-time temporary coach in the conference and it is a tough job to recruit while holding down a full time job and having a wife and two kids.
However, recruiting has gone incredibly well, beyond my expectations and I am grateful for this outcome.
We will be inviting 32 players to pre season and will cut the roster down to 27 players at the end of the intensive pre season program. So far I have 36 players wanting to attend and I am still working on another possible 8 recruits trying to get into the school. So, I am actually going to have to make a cut before I even get the players to pre season! WOW!!
It is only 3 years ago that we had a roster totaling 17 players and our recruitment efforts consisted of taking anyone who had remotely been interested in soccer and had actually played for a team in the last couple of years! Man, have things changed!
So, how did we turn this around? Well, it is a combination of different factors that I will outline in detail in a future post. For now I am enjoying the fact that we are inundated with quality players, then I get a little stressed knowing that I am going to have to make some tough decisions in the next couple of weeks.
So, I will keep you posted of the final pieces of the recruiting puzzle and I will post a report on our recruiting efforts.
