College Soccer Second Game of the Season

OK, so back down to earth with a bump after a 2-0 loss today.

We went up against our cross town rivals who beat us 4-0 last year. They are currently ranked 8th in the nation in NAIA, so obviously they are a good team.

We got off to a bright start and could have been up 1-0 early on. They then scored a very fortunate goal after twenty minutes. Our center half was tripped ( missed by the ref) as he went full length on the floor they tried a through ball which ricoched of his prostrate body right to a player who slotted in the ball.

In the second half they double their lead with a forward pulling off a nice turn to beat our defender and goalkeeper.

All in all it wasn’t a bad performance. It was our second game of the season, the opposition’s fifth game and they start pre season much sooner than us.

We had some positives and we have some areas to work on. The biggest challenge we have is putting together some kind of style in the attacking third. We relied to much on the through ball today and we need to have other options.

So, we are now getting ready for our next game in 4 days. We give them tomorrow off, although they have a recovery run to do. Then back on the practice field on Monday.

We are suffering a number of injuries which is worrying, but normal at this stage of the pre season.
