Last 5 minutes of a soccer game…
My favorite team, Blackburn Rovers, equalised in injury time in the FA Cup tie against Coventry, making the score 2-2 and earning a replay. Coventry City were obviously “gutted” by throwing away the game in the dying seconds.
How many times have you seen that happen in soccer games??….too many times to count. It happened against Blackburn Rovers when they were winning 2-0 vs Manchester City and ended up with Robinho tying the game with the last kick of the match!
So, as a coach, what can you do to finish the game off when you are up by a goal with five minutes to go?
Do you pull back one of your forwards into midfield to help close the game down?
Do you use every time wasting tactic you know?
Do you defend Italian style with 11 men behind the ball and give the opponents their half of the field?
Do you play smart by not giving away any set plays in the last third of the field especially?
Do you take your forwards off and replace them with more defensive substitutes?
Or do you continue playing the attacking style of play that put you in front in the first place…”The best form of defense is attack”
Let me know your thoughts and ideas…..
